Stories From Ghana

Bachabodo

Now more than ever, access to clean water is critical to the health of families around the world. Our partnership with Healing Hands International (HHI) and Rural Water Development Program (RWDP) in Ghana has made a life changing impact in the small rural community of Bachabodo in northern Ghana. Families that had to walk six miles everyday to collect unsanitary water from the stream during the rainy season now have access to clean, safe water. The children are able to spend more time in school instead of walking for water and parents have the capacity to earn money for their families.

Northern and Brong Ahafo Region

Our water program has been able to drill over 1100 wet wells fitted with hand pumps in nine regions of the country. We have repaired 545 broken down wells in the Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions of Ghana. We have established and trained over 1,300 Water Sanitation Committees, disinfected 5,600 contaminated water points in 1,500 communities, trained 120 Area Pump Mechanics and established the largest water well equipment sales outlet in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Zogu

In partnership with Healing Hands International (HHI) and Rural Water and Development Program (RWDP), we were able to drill a new water well in the Northern Ghana Village of Zogu. During our visit, we were fortunate to meet twelve-year-old Humu and her family. Behind Humu, in this picture above, is the pond that she formerly shared with her friends. Also, livestock commonly entered the pond to drink while water was being collected – which made the water unsafe to drink due to water-borne intestinal parasites and bacteria. But now she smiles because she has safe water to drink and her mother has safe water for cooking and washing.
