Connecting Clean Water and Faith

Clean water can change lives. If we have learned anything throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it is that if our health and wellbeing are in danger, we are incapable of achieving our full potential. During the last year, life as we know it halted— businesses failed, economies crashed and we all were forced to stand still to combat a crisis. Millions of women and children face a constant crisis in Ghana. With no access to a safe water supply, health is perpetually vulnerable, and communities are inhibited from unlocking educational and economic opportunities that could transform their lives. With your help, we can change that.

After recently partnering with Healing Hands International’s (HHI) Walk4Water, Ghana West Africa Missions (GWAM) and Water for West Africa (WfWA) successfully raised over $39,000 to drill new water wells in communities across rural Ghana.  Through the Florence WALK4Water event, we were blessed by being able to drill five new wells in Northern Ghana communities. One of the communities now blessed with access to clean water is the Dantie Church of Christ in Jirapa.

In her first two and a half years of life, Isabella (pictured right) had never even seen clear water flow from a clean pipe. Members of the Dantie congregation, Isabella and her family’s lives are now forever changed. Thanks to the hard work of GWAM and WfWA, and constant support from our partners, the Dantie community and Isabella now have clean water.

That Yellow Jug…

Young Isabella watched our drilling crew in awe as they constructed the community’s new well—she was one of the first to fill up her yellow water jug and enjoy the well’s riches. Isabella is too young to realize how much that yellow jug filled with clean water will impact her life—but her mother understands. Isabella’s mother knows that a life without clean water would inhibit her child’s ability to excel in school and significantly threaten her physical safety. Without clean water, Isabella would likely miss weeks of school due to sickness, she could drop out of school entirely due to the deteriorating health or productivity of her mother in the marketplace, and she would be vulnerable to violence as she trekked miles away for dirty water in the early mornings.

Isabella’s mother told the drilling team that her and her family are grateful beyond belief. It is by the good will of others that Isabella and her family’s lives have been forever changed.

Committed to Serving

GWAM and WfWA remain committed to serving communities like Dantie and changing pathways to transform the lives of the people of Ghana. None of this, however, would be possible without your help: your tireless advocacy, your continuous kindness and your endless generosity.

We aim to raise $50,000 this Fall to provide 100 water well hand pumps to communities across Ghana. We are already at the $30, 000 mark! With your help, we can guarantee that more children like Isabella never know life without access to clean water again.

Clean water changes everything. Join us in providing support to build stronger, healthier communities in Northern Ghana.
